James brings a remarkable blend of experience and capability to Grow HR, with 25 years in the culinary industry and a successful track record as the owner of award-winning Hawke’s Bay restaurants, Bistronomy and Taste Cornucopia.

His entrepreneurial journey has given him deep insights into the realities of running a business and being a good employer— including navigating New Zealand’s employment relations landscape and particularly the challenges of leading, motivating, and managing people.

Now in his role as an ER / HR Partner / Licensed Private Investigator , James draws on this rich background to support our clients with practical, empathetic, and business-savvy guidance.  His approach is grounded in real-world experience and a commitment to developing a relationship with each client with a view to gaining a deep understanding of the wider context before providing each client with the best options.

He is passionate about helping businesses build strong, resilient teams and navigates employment relations with confidence and precision.

James also brings a naturally inquisitive mind and an empathetic approach to the team. With a Private Investigators licence and formal training in workplace investigations, he is well-equipped to assist clients with robust independent investigations into sensitive and complex workplace matters. 

Lastly, he plays a key role in connecting clients with the wider Grow HR team. James understands the value of collaboration and is enthusiastic about helping clients access the diverse expertise and perspectives our team offers as a whole.
